Italian Student Visa (National Visa Type D) Guide
For studies lasting more than 90 days, you will need a National Visa (Type D) for study purposes.
Key Requirements:
I)Pre-enrollment/Acceptance Letter: From a recognized Italian educational institution.
ii)Proof of Funds: Evidence of sufficient financial means (?467.65 per month for the duration of the academic year, or equivalent scholarship).
iii)Accommodation Proof: Confirmation of accommodation in Italy (e.g., dormitory booking, rental agreement).
iv)Health Insurance: Proof of health insurance valid for Italy and the Schengen Area.
v)Valid Passport: With at least three months validity beyond your intended departure from Italy and at least two blank pages.
vi)Return Ticket: Or sufficient funds to purchase one.
vii)Academic Qualifications: Copies of previous diplomas and transcripts.
viii)Motivation Letter: Explaining your reasons for studying in Italy.
Application Process:
1. Pre-enroll or get accepted by an Italian university.
2. Gather all necessary documents.
3. Fill out the National Visa application form.
4. Book an appointment and submit your application to the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your home country or a VFS Global center.
5. Pay the visa fee.
6. Attend an interview if required.
7. Await decision. Upon arrival in Italy, you must apply for a residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno) for study purposes within eight working days at a local Questura (police headquarters).
Post-Study Work Opportunities:
After graduating, international students can apply to convert their student residence permit into a job search permit (Permesso di Soggiorno per Ricerca Lavoro) or a work permit (Permesso di Soggiorno per Lavoro Subordinato/Autonomo) if they secure employment. The job search permit typically allows graduates to stay for up to 12 months to find a job.
