UK Student Visa (Student Route) Guide
As of October 5, 2020, the Tier 4 (General) student visa has been replaced by the Student Route visa.
Key Requirements:
i)Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS): A unique reference number from your licensed student sponsor (university).
ii)Financial Proof: Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your course fees for one academic year (or the full course if less than a year) and living costs (maintenance funds). As of 2024, this is generally £1,334 per month for London courses and £1,023 per month for outside London, for up to 9 months.
iii)English Language Proficiency: Pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider (e.g., IELTS Academic UKVI) unless exempt (e.g., from an English-speaking country, or studied a degree in English).
iv)Valid Passport: Must be valid for your entire stay.
v)Previous Academic Qualifications: Transcripts and certificates.
vi)Tuberculosis (TB) Test Certificate: Required if you are from a listed country.
Application Process:
1. Receive your CAS from your UK university.
2. Gather all required documents.
3. Complete the online Student Route visa application form on the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website.
4. Pay the visa application fee (currently £490) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
5. Book and attend an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
